Petco Love® Adoption Event and Grant Celebration

Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested nearly $410 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations — like ours — across North America, with nearly 7 million pets adopted and counting.

“Our investment in Oconee Humane Society is part of more than $12M in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We launched Petco Love Lost, a free national lost and found database that uses photo-matching technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”

“Petco Love’s lifesaving investments have allowed us to proudly maintain a no-kill shelter status since 2021. In 2024, we reached 98.7%! We achieved this through timely medical treatment, surgery and vaccinations at intake, successful adoption best match placements which are possible through behavioral support while in foster, and testing and socializing in play groups. This was all made possible by the generous support from Petco Love!” said Karen Taylor, Director, and Dr. Paul Black, President of Oconee Humane Society. “Our Petco Love partnership is vital to our pet adoption goals and our adoption events at our Seneca Petco pet care center remain our most effective venue for placements of dogs and cats into loving homes.”

Oconee Humane is currently serving Oconee County and has been outreaching in all neighboring SC counties with low cost spay/neuter, vaccinations, and our very successful TNR (trap/neuter/release) program. Since 2022, we’ve saved 5,444 cats and dogs! In addition, 2,168 cats were saved through TNR. We performed nearly 10,000 low cost/free vaccinations and 3,287 low cost spay/neuters since opening our clinic in late 2022. A whopping 221,302 pounds of food were donated to our qualified residents. Last but not least, in 2023 and 2024 alone, we accumulated 51,000+ volunteer hours between shelter, rescue transport, adoption, and fundraising events!

Oconee Humane Society is a 50-year-old nonprofit organization, 100% self-funded. We rely entirely on donations and grants to sustain our activity. The organization functions with a small staff and a host of dedicated volunteers. We voluntarily manage the adoption center for the county animal shelter.
